Rodolfo Sancho about his son: "Daniel defended himself against sexual assault"

Daniel Sancho became, last August, one of the protagonists of Spanish news. His arrest for the alleged murder of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta mobilized the media in our country and also in Thailand, where the crime occurred. This same Tuesday the trial began, about which no information can be disclosed, but a derivative product with the same journey has also been released.

The Sancho case arrived on HBO Max practically by surprise, on the eve of the hearing and with only one prior communication. However, his stay on the American platform has been just as sudden as his debut. In a matter of hours the documentary vanished from the searches and categories without leaving a trace, specifically Episode Zero that was available today. Even so, many conclusions have been drawn.

“The truth is that in the conversation with Daniel, he told me that this guy had threatened him at the time, with death, with harm to his family. He defended himself against threats and an attempted sexual assault. And then he tells us what it was like: the fight, what happened after the fight, the fear, the panic, the state of dissociation,” was one of the surprising statements of the accused’s father, Rodolfo Sancho, during the footage.

The actor who has participated in series such as The Ministry of Time and The Lady defended his son from the accusations that weigh on his head, but he also considers that the tragedy that the Arrieta family is going through is equally terrifying. “I have the perception that there are two victims and without a doubt there is one deceased and it is terrible. I want the truth to come out. And from there we will all have to manage our sensations and feelings,” he expressed.

Likewise, the detainee’s father expressed before the cameras what his process of action was on August 7, when he discovered the facts: “The first reaction is stupefaction and not believing what they are saying at face value because it didn’t add up at all, everything was very strange. He tells me that he had a fight with a guy I knew nothing about, and that it ended in a tragic way. He knew what he had to do from the beginning.”

In his own words, he focused his energy on helping his son, so he contacted the Thai embassy to try to manage the matter. Since then, there have been months of investigation, videos, images, cross-statements and many accusations. Daniel Sancho faces the death penalty for a premeditated crime, the prosecution argues, while his defense reiterates that he only dismembered him after Arrieta died from a head injury.
