La casa de papel not only had an ensemble cast but also an unprecedented success for Spanish fiction in the streaming era. Every actor who had a lead role in the series is a face that audiences know. So it makes sense that Daniel Calparsoro, the director of Centauro, Hasta el cielo or Hasta el cielo: la serie, has three actors from the finished series for his new project for Netflix, especially when it is titled Asalto al Banco Central. They are Miguel Herrán, María Pedraza and Hovik Keuchkerian.

It is a five-episode miniseries that begins filming this October and will last two months. The story will be set in Barcelona in 1981, three months after the coup attempt by then Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tejero, when eleven hooded men entered the headquarters of the Central Bank.

It was a new challenge for a recent and still vulnerable democracy, which involved the kidnapping of 200 people. Was it an attempt to destabilize democracy or were they simply “chorizos, thugs and anarchists” as General Aramburu said on behalf of the crisis cabinet?

Assault on the Central Bank is produced by Brutal Media, which in recent years has produced two popular Netflix contents: the thriller Welcome to Eden and the documentary The Tapes of Rosa Peral, which raised blisters for serving the image of the co-author of the murder of Pedro Rodríguez in the so-called Crime of the Urban Police.
