That daughters look for inspiration in their mothers’ closet is a more than common practice. There are many girls who recover archival garments that are back in trend or very special designs that their parents wore on a certain day and that they adapt to their style.
The last “daughter of” who has recycled a dress from her famous mother has been Apple Martin, the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow, who has thus fulfilled the actress’s wish. At the end of 2015, the protagonist of Shakespeare in love explained to People magazine that she kept all the designs that she had worn at the Oscars for her eldest daughter. “It’s funny that I’ve been saving all my dresses, especially for 12 years, right before she was born. So I have them all, every one of the Oscars dresses,” she revealed.
Years after these statements, Gwyneth recently shared with her thousands of Instagram followers that Apple has already worn some of her mythical dresses. She thus confirmed it after a question from a fan, that she wanted to know if the 19-year-old had worn one of her archival designs.
With a resounding yes and an image, Paltrow showed an image of her daughter wearing a black dress that many of her followers will remember since it was one of her most memorable and controversial outfits on the red carpet at the Oscars in 2002.
More than twenty years ago, Gwyneth appeared on the biggest night in the film industry in an Alexander McQueen gown that turned heads with its sheer fishnet bodice and long taffeta skirt ending in a train. A gothic-style look that the actress wore with her blonde hair collected in a braid and a casual bow and makeup with her gaze marked in black. “I had a weird hangover for a while because people were so critical. I think that at the time it was too gothic… I think that in a way she shocked people, but I like her, ”the protagonist told Vogue magazine a few years ago.
In the image shared by Gwyneth, Apple could be seen in her mother’s dressing room and posing in the dress that was perfectly fitted to her waist. The young woman also picked up her hair and combined her design with a pearl necklace to match her earrings. It is unknown if she wore this dress for a special occasion or just tried it on.
In recent years it has been increasingly common to see the daughters of celebrities wearing their mothers’ designs. A couple of years ago, Zahara, the daughter of Angelia Jolie, accompanied her mother to the Eternals premiere wearing an Elie Saab jewelery design that the actress wore to the Oscars in 2014.
