Wife of Alleged Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Rex Heuermann Relocating
The wife of the alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer, Rex Heuermann, is taking a significant step in her life by deciding to relocate from Long Island. Asa Ellerup, Heuermann’s estranged wife, has made the tough decision to move out of their Massapequa Park house and start anew in South Carolina. Her attorney, Robert Macedonio, confirmed this information and shared that Ellerup has “lost her attachment to her house of 30 years” following the search conducted by federal agents in connection to the deaths of multiple women.
Moving On for Healing
In a statement released by her attorney, Ellerup expressed her desire to initiate the healing process by making this move. Shortly after Heuermann’s initial arrest, Ellerup filed for divorce, indicating a clear intention to separate herself from the situation. Her adult children, whom she shares with Heuermann, are expected to join her in South Carolina in due time. Despite the move, it’s important to note that the house is not currently up for sale, as clarified by Macedonio.
New Developments in the Gilgo Beach Killings
The recent search of Heuermann’s residence revealed new insights into the ongoing investigation of the Gilgo Beach killings. Investigators uncovered a cache of weapons during an initial search following Heuermann’s arrest in July 2023. In a more recent search that took place in May, various materials were collected and bagged as evidence, including paint chips and a large rectangular object concealed under a blue cloth.
Further Expansion of Charges
Heuermann, aged 60, was initially arrested in connection to the deaths of four women whose remains were discovered in burlap sacks along Ocean Parkway over a decade ago. The victims, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Amber Lynn Costello, Melissa Barthelemy, and Megan Waterman, were found during the search for missing escort Shannan Gilbert, who was later found deceased in a marsh. Subsequently, Heuermann was also charged with the murders of Jessica Taylor in 2003 and Sandra Costilla a decade earlier, based on announcements made by prosecutors in June.
