Flowering also prevails in the sunflower, which does not want to miss spring, thus filling the fields with a beautiful combination of yellow and green colors, as seen in this photograph for La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos captured in the region of La Selva.
The sunflower is very photogenic. It is an annual herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family, native to Central and North America and cultivated as a food, oilseed and ornamental plant throughout the world.
The planting time for dryland cultivation varies depending on latitude. Planting should be done in rows spaced 0.70 m apart, with a planting density of four plants per linear meter.
It is a crop that is not very demanding on the type of soil, although it prefers sandy clay and rich in organic matter, but it is essential that the soil has good drainage and the water table is at a shallow depth.
The germination of sunflower seeds depends on the temperature and humidity of the soil, with the average temperature being 5 °C for 24 hours.
