The port of Tarragona closes the first quarter of 2023 achieving a triple record of cereal movement in its facilities. On the one hand, with 529 thousand tons of cereal during the month of March, multiplying by 3.2 the traffic of March 2022. In addition, with the movement of 1.8 million tons of cereals in these first months, a growth of 65.9% compared to the same quarter of 2022 and, finally, the best result in twelve consecutive months with 4.97 million tons of cereals. The total traffic during this March also presents figures on the rise.
The accumulated data of all traffic during the first quarter of 2023 reflect a movement of 8.52 million tons, an increase of 15.5% compared to the first quarter of 2022. In addition, 2.8% of these have been only in the month of March, which translates into a growth of 15.5% compared to 2022. However, Ukraine continues to be the main origin of cereals with 859,000 tons in the first quarter, followed by Brazil, with 413,000 tons, and Latvia with 154,000 tons.
At the end of March, liquid jet traffic stands out with a monthly movement of 1.7 million tons, a 33% increase compared to March 2022. The quarterly recovery is also significant in this traffic with 5 million tons. tons representing an increase of 5.4% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
On the other hand, bulk solids, which include merchandise such as coal, cereals, feed, flour and other agri-food merchandise, represent a positive variation during the month of March of 194% compared to March 2022 and 56, 2% growth in accumulated data for the quarter.
