The municipalities of Baix Empordà want to meet with the chief prosecutor of Girona to ask for more firmness in cases of multiple repeat offenders.
“If they are detained, what corresponds is to take them out of their usual circuit,” says the Councilor for Citizen Security of La Bisbal, Xavier Dilmé, in reference to them entering prison. Furthermore, the town councils regret that they are forced to make up for the lack of Mossos that the region suffers, which on some occasions “becomes unsustainable.”
For this reason, they will demand that the Interior make “an effort” to increase them, because more patrols and controls on the roads also “deter” thieves.
Finally, municipalities want to make it easier for those who suffer thefts to report them, since many end up in nothing.
After raising their voice in December against multiple recidivists, five municipalities of the Baix Empordà with local police and vigilantes have met again this Wednesday. At the meeting there were representatives from La Bisbal, Calonge, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Forallac and Torroella de Montgrí.
Xavier Dilmé has explained that they all suffer from two common problems. On the one hand, the action of those criminals who have made thefts and robberies their modus vivendi, and who, no matter how much they are arrested, “do not have the appropriate judicial response.” And on the other hand, the fact that they are “forced to make up” – with more local police or security guards – for the lack of Mossos in the region, which “sometimes becomes unsustainable.”
