The Generalitat of Catalonia reported this Tuesday the activation of a preventive notice of particle pollution in Barcelona and the municipalities of its conurbation. The situation, which is the phase prior to an environmental episode, affects 40 locations.
For now, citizens are urged to make their journeys on foot or by bicycle in areas with little traffic, to prioritize public transport and to reduce trips by private vehicle.
A notification will be sent to industrial and electricity generation activities to activate the established protocols and municipalities are recommended to stop or reduce activities or works with dusty materials.
During the next few hours the evolution of polluting particles will be examined. If the situation worsens, the preventive warning will be changed to the particle pollution episode, with more severe measures.
