The Somescola platform, which brings together more than 60 entities linked to the Catalan school model, has carried out a critical analysis of the information visit of 12 MEPs to study the language immersion system. As has been pointed out, there is no “honest desire to know the Catalan school model, but rather to make propaganda.” The delegation comes from the petitions committee of the European Parliament, chaired by the popular Dolors Montserrat.

The platform has presented a document that highlights the importance of immersion so as not to separate children based on language, and has denied that this model is detrimental to their education by providing data from basic skills exams. Likewise, the great consensus in the country around this educational model has been highlighted.

For Somescola, the PP, Ciudadanos and Vox parties “are trying to impose a change in the model through judicial means by not achieving it at the polls.”

The visit of the MEPs, where there is no representation of leftist formations, continues to generate controversy. The Government spokesperson, Patrícia Plaja, has accused the PP of being “right-wing partisan” with this visit and of “instrumentalizing Catalan children.” And she recalled that “the model is not touched.” The informative visit is based on the requests made in the commission, especially that of the Assembly for the Bilingual School (ABE), which were processed by the popular parties, Ciudadanos and Vox.

The delegation has also gone to the TSJC to obtain information about the sentences that defend 25% immersion in Spanish, and they have visited two educational centers. Afterwards they were received by the councilor Anna Simó. From leftist formations it is considered that this visit is already part of a preconceived diagnosis promoted by Dolors Montserrat.
