The workers of the chemical transport company Teifer de Lleida have started a strike due to non-compliance with the salary increase agreed with the agreement signed last July.

The head of CCOO’s Transport sector, Joan Riba, explained that the staff is facing a loss in purchasing power of 12.5 percent and that has led them to strike.

According to CCOO, unemployment is close to 100% because of the 24 workers on the staff, only one has decided to work because he was already on his way through Europe. There are 4 other workers from a related company.

The forecast is that the strike will last the entire week, the workers threaten that if the company does not negotiate and looks for a middle ground, they will continue the protest indefinitely.

The personnel representative of Transportes Teifer, Antoni Gay, has assured that they have been negotiating with the company for a long time and after convening many labor courts they have not finished consolidating the agreement.

In this sense, he has assured that salaries have been frozen for 10 years and now they were “excited” because a “quite good” provincial agreement had been reached with the provision of salary increases that the company has not recently passed on.

In addition, he added that there is a 2019 pact whose objective is to “bring closer” those who earn less because they do not have that much seniority and that it is not being fulfilled.

According to Gay, it is unfair that in a company there are people from the same job category earning different salaries and that is why people ask for equal pay.

Workers also demand payment of contributory supplements such as per diems.
