The last major stage of a very mountainous Tour takes place in the Vosges mountain range, with a short (133.5 km), nervous and tough day. Perhaps with the yellow jersey so determined, the final fight will come a bit watered down but the six ports that climb still have to choose the owner of third place.
The two final climbs, the Petit Ballon and the Col du Platzerwasel, the toughest of the day, were the scene of the great performance of Annemiek van Vleuten in the last Tour de France Femmes. The Dutch from Movistar attacked in the first, was left alone in the second and turned the general around in Le Markstein.
From the top of the Platzerwasel to the finish line there are eight kilometers but in which you will have to pedal because there is hardly any descent. Everything is a very treacherous false plain.
But be careful, we will have to see how Pogacar’s legs react if the race goes crazy. The Col de la Grosse Pierre, with a kilometer at 11%, in the middle of the stage could be the ideal place to break out the battle because it connects with an interesting leg-breaking section.
Other incentives will be the fight for the mountain jersey. Ciccone is the leader after the last alpine stage thanks to his breakaway but the standings are very close, with Gall six points behind and Vingegaard seven.
