Pumas claims millionaire compensation from Alves

On January 20, Dani Alves was arrested and since then he has been fighting to get out of the pressure, in which he is provisionally imprisoned. The Brazilian is accused of an alleged sexual assault on a woman in the bathrooms of a nightclub. In addition to a complicated legal situation, the footballer is facing a lawsuit from Pumas, the club he was playing for when the events occurred. The Mexican entity has already fired the soccer player, but now they are asking him for million-dollar compensation despite the fact that he has not even been tried.

The UOL Sporte’ newspaper publishes that on January 20, the date of the arrest, the board of directors of the university club sent an email to Daniel Alves announcing the termination of the contract and notifying him of the request for compensation of 4.5 million euros.

The Mexican team is protected by a clause that penalizes the player for his participation in doping cases, “in any scandal that is made public” or in “any act that is considered a crime according to the legislation of the country in which it took place.” . The Pumas de la UNAM consider that with his accusation of rape Dani Alves has breached the third type and, therefore, requires financial compensation.

“For very serious breaches by the player, in the terms provided in the fourteenth and fifteenth clauses of the contract, the player is irremediably obliged to reimburse the club for the payment of compensation provided for in the fifteenth clause of the contract, in the amount of 5 million net dollars, that is, free of all taxes or withholdings,” defends Pumas in a letter to which UOL has had access.

The Mexican team goes further and threatens Dani Alves with going to FIFA if he does not pay his compensation: “Pumas reserves the right to take any and all actions before FIFA and/or in any other relevant and competent jurisdiction , to claim compensation, which was agreed under the terms of the fifteenth clause of the contract”.
