The Valents candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Eva Parera, has starred this Monday in a discussion lunch at the CÃrculo Ecuestre in which she has explained the program for the municipal elections on May 28, which she presents as “the Catalan Ayuso “, for being an “uncomplexed” ruler who puts on the table, as she has assured, the problems of the city without worrying about whether they are politically correct.
For the councilor, who was elected on the Manuel Valls candidacy list in 2019 and four years later went to the polls with her own party, Valents, it was a mistake to leave the PSC in the hands of the PSC, which she accuses of being ” partner” of the policies of the commons, the mayor’s office of Barcelona, which Ada Colau continued to exercise thanks to the decision of the former French prime minister to give his votes to the government coalition between the socialists and Barcelona en Comú, to the detriment of the independentista Ernest Maragall , from CKD.
However, that support has not borne the expected fruits: “We gave him an alternative majority on many occasions and the socialist Jaume Collboni has not wanted to count on the opposition,” said Parera, whose absolute priority is now “to throw out the government.” municipal government, which he sees as being made up of “activists”, to put “managers” at the head of the City Council.
In his speech, Parera has repeatedly stressed the independence of Valents, a Catalan formation with which he aspires to become a kind of Union of the Navarre People (UPN) in Catalonia, with full autonomy from the other forces in the political space of constitutionalism, singularly PP and Ciudadanos, whom he criticizes for being “franchises” of their respective state executives.
After the presentation of Antonio Delgado, president of the CÃrculo, the journalist from La Vanguardia JoaquÃn Luna began the talk with Parera by referring to his book, A journey for the brave, and asked him if he regretted having given his support to Colau in 2019. “I regret having trusted the PSC”, Parera responded, who then, he recalled, decided to “get wet” between Colau and Maragall.
“I regret having thought that the PSC would distance itself from Colau’s policies and stay away from the Republicans,” admitted the Valents candidate, who in the last four years has observed a municipal government that has acted de facto as a tripartite
Parera has a long political career and was a senator for Convergència i Unió before joining the Barcelona project of Valls. In the last Catalan elections, she was elected deputy on the PP list, but she left Parliament to launch her own political project. “I don’t have to ask anyone’s permission to agree and I don’t have ties,” extolled the leader of Valents, who has claimed her “freedom” and her “lack of complexes”, in tune with Isabel DÃaz Ayuso. “There is too much fear of criticism on the networks,” said the mayor.
The name of Valents is a vindication of the useful vote and against resignation in politics, has affirmed Parera, who has trusted that on May 28 the polls will be surpassed by reality if the Barcelona voters “vote with conviction and not choosing the wrong minor”.
In this sense, the Valents candidate has questioned the fact that in some forums she is not counted on because she does not have a state-level party behind her and has criticized TV3, which she accuses of being “politicized” and having renounced “neutrality “, for not having a place in their news: “I will find another way to get my proposals across and, in addition, I have electoral rights,” Parera has announced defiantly.
In the field of proposals, the policies against the illegal occupation of homes have focused most of his speech: “This is the main problem of the city and it must be faced without complexes”, has prescribed Parera, for whom Colau has converted Barcelona in a lawless city for mafias that occupy flats, unaccompanied minors and crime.
“Our program is not for sale,” she said when asked about possible post-electoral alliances. “If people are asking for a change, the only possible change is Valents, we have already tried everything else. If it has not worked, it is obvious that something new must be voted for. I hope that this translates into the polls and in any case we will want to be in the government”, concluded Parera, who was convinced that she could be “demanding” after May 28.
