Overflowing water in the Fonts del Llobregat

These days you can see the Fonts del Llobregat with a lot of water, as seen in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia, thanks to the latest rains that have been recorded in Catalonia and that drive away the specter of drought.

The springs where the Llobregat river is born spring directly from the cliffs that border Castellar de n’Hug, and form an abundant and rapid waterfall.

In this beautiful place, the water that goes down through the cracks and cavities of the calcareous rocks (karst aquifer) hits the clay layer, much more impermeable, and comes to the surface. The flow rate of the fountain is around 4 m3 per second.

We are located in the “pleta Roja”, at 1295 meters of altitude, within the municipality of Castellar de n’Hug, in the region of Berguedà. The Fonts del Llobregat are located approximately half a kilometer west of the town.

The excursion to visit the Llobregat springs is a classic, especially among families. These are underground water springs in Paleozoic calcareous rocks found at the source of this river.
