As if they were competing on the track for the future 2025 mount, Jorge Martín and Marc Márquez competed in the first free practice session of the Catalunya GP, resolved in favor of the Madrid rider by 292 thousandths. The Pramac Ducati rider took the honor of opening the GP in Montmeló with the best time.
With 4 minutes remaining in the first session, Martín set the best time, which Márquez had up to that point ahead of Brad Binder, third.
The first free practice session, the first contact with the asphalt of Montmeló, was marked by the lack of grip on the track. In the previous days, the movement due to the renovation works has been incessant in the Estadi area.
One of those who suffered the consequences of low grip was Pedro Acosta, who went off in turn 7 and had to go to the escape, without physical consequences. The Murcian finished fourth.
Aleix Espargaró, who on Thursday announced his upcoming retirement at the end of the season, set the fifth fastest time, 472 thousandths behind Martín. Àlex Márquez was sixth and the champion, Pecco Bagnaia, seventh.
