The Polish team, led by Robert Lewandowski, will play with Wales for one of the three tickets left to be awarded for the Euro 2024 Championship in Germany. The Poles beat Estonia 5-1 in a peaceful match at the National Stadium in Warsaw, while the Welsh beat Finland 4-1. The two will meet in Cardiff on Tuesday, and the winner will enter Group D of the Euro Cup alongside the Netherlands, Austria and France.
To decide the three vacant places for Germany, UEFA has established six qualifying rounds with three finals. In the so-called route A, Poland and Wales did their homework with ease in their fiefdoms. In Warsaw, Frankowski opened the scoring in the 22nd minute by taking advantage of a beautiful diagonal pass from Piotrowski. The victory went downhill for Poland with the expulsion of Paskotsi in the 26th minute for a double yellow. Zielinski made it 2-0 in the 50th with a header from Zalewski’s center. Piotrowski scored 3-0 with a pass from the Blaugrana Lewandowski, who was very active, but remained unmarked despite a good number of shots. The Mets made it 4-0 into their own goal and Szymanski finished off with the score 5-0. Vetkal scored the 5-1 honor for Estonia.
In Cardiff, Wales beat Finland (4-1) with goals from David Brooks, Neco Williams, Brennan Johnson and Dan James.
On route B, Ukraine (which beat Bosnia, 1-2) and Iceland (beat Israel away, 1-3) will face each other for the second ticket. The Ukrainians starred in the feat of the play-off night by coming back from 1-0 down in just three minutes with goals from Yaremchuk, from Valencia, and Dovbyk, Girona forward. Now they will meet on neutral ground, with Ukraine as the home team, for a place that will take the winner to group F with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania.
On route C, third place will be played between Georgia (2-0 to Luxembourg) and Greece (5-0 to Kazakhstan). Tuesday’s winner will be in group F with Türkiye, Portugal and Czechia.
