Juan Carlos I has assured that he is “very much looking forward” to the meeting scheduled for this Monday with his son, King Felipe VI, in Madrid. From this meeting, he has also pointed out, he expects “many hugs” and “to see the family”.

The emeritus thus answered the questions from the media gathered at the exit of the Sanxenxo Yacht Club, where he attended the awards ceremony for the Viaje Interrías Trophy that was held this weekend in the town of Pontevedra and which won the Rogue, aboard which Juan Carlos I has sailed.

At the ceremony, the monarch received a plaque in recognition of his “support for sailing and sports in general”, as well as for promoting tourism in the town of Pontevedra and throughout Galicia.

These ‘special’ awards have also gone to the mayor of Sanxenxo, Telmo Martín, and to the businessman and president of the Club Náutico, Pedro Campos. All of them, says the organization, have contributed to the tourist activity of the town.

The emeritus, helped by one of his assistants and leaning on a cane, has also gone up to collect the prize that recognizes the Rogue as the winner of this weekend’s Trophy, in the ‘Classics’ category, which is held within the framework of the Spanish Sailing Cup of 6 meters.

The podium is completed by Titia, also from the Pontevedra Nautical Club, and Caprice, from the Canido Maritime Club; all of them with the Spanish flag.

Once again, dozens of people have gathered on the breakwater to see the award ceremony, some of them with Spanish flags. When Don Juan Carlos has gone up to receive the commemorative plaque, and also when he has collected the trophy for the Rogue, many of the spectators have started with “Long live Spain” and “Long live the King”, between applause and cheers.

Although Don Juan Carlos did not make any statements during the awards ceremony, he did when leaving the vicinity of the Club Náutico accompanied by Pedro Campos, and to whose home they are now heading.

The monarch is scheduled to travel to Madrid this Monday, where, as reported by Casa Real this week, he will meet with his son Felipe VI and will also take the opportunity to visit friends and family.
