Pain among the residents of Macael, a small municipality of just over 5,000 inhabitants located in the heart of the Almanzora Valley region, in Almería, which is still trying to recover from the sad news that has left the entire town in silence. Yesterday afternoon, a 7-year-old boy was fatally run over by a motorcycle on Paco Consentino Avenue by a driver who fled after the accident.

The victim, who was treated by emergency services and taken to the hospital, died shortly after admission due to the severity of his injuries. Meanwhile, the Police tried to identify and locate the perpetrator of the event, who ended up being arrested during the early hours of the morning.

Sources from the unified emergency service 112 Andalusia have indicated that a notice was received at 8:10 p.m. on Thursday alerting them to the accident and specifying that the driver of a motorcycle had run over a minor.

Thus, the Local Police and the health services were notified, who transported the minor in a state of unconsciousness to the La Inmaculada Hospital in Huércal-Overa, where he died a few hours later as he was unable to overcome his serious injuries.

For its part, the Police managed to locate the alleged perpetrator of the attack, of foreign origin, about four hours later and arrest him during this early morning, so that he remains in police stations while proceedings are carried out before being brought to justice, according to different sources of the investigation have indicated.

The tragic news has led the council to decree a day of mourning. It was the mayor of Macael, Raúl Martínez Requejo, who made this decision known through a municipal party, since he has expressed condolences and solidarity with his family on behalf of the entire municipality.
