The first work on the new Lleida bus station began this Monday, as announced by the Generalitat on Friday.
The workers have installed a construction panel that indicates the start of the work and which also includes the administrations that are in charge.
The sign has been placed next to the blue zone parking lot, which will no longer be operational as of May 20 due to the start of the works. At the same time, a few meters higher, the workers have unloaded a construction module at the entrance of the old La Meta flour mill, which is where part of the new station will be built.
Located next to the railway station, the new infrastructure aims to promote intermodality between train and bus and has a budget of 38 million euros.
The works are carried out by the Department of Territory and are carried out around the old flour mill La Meta and Els Docs, next to the railway station.
They have financing from the Next Generation Fund and are expected to have an execution period of 22 months.
Lleida annually registers 1.4 million passengers on more than 120 bus lines, including intercity routes throughout Catalonia, state and international, and the location of the new station should allow the intermodality of public transport to be promoted.
The infrastructure will occupy an area of ??nearly 12,500 square meters and must respond to the current demand for mobility as well as replace the city’s bus station, which has become obsolete and greatly degraded after being launched in the 1970s. last century.
