This Saturday, FIFA and UEFA demanded explanations from the Higher Sports Council (CSD) for the creation of a commission to oversee the functioning of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) over the coming months and gave it until Friday to respond to your requirements, after which they will evaluate the need to take “possible additional measures” in this regard. Among the risks are Spain’s participation in the Euro Cup in Germany or the organization of the 2030 World Cup.

“FIFA and UEFA are very concerned that the appointment of the Commission may significantly affect the RFEF’s obligation to manage its affairs independently and without undue influence (…) and, therefore, request the necessary guarantees that the Statutes of FIFA and UEFA are and will continue to be respected,” explain the general secretaries of both organizations, Mattias Grafström and Theodore Theodoridis, in a letter addressed to José Manuel Rodríguez-Uribes, president of the CSD. , which the newspaper As reports.

In the text, they warn that, if they do not receive the requested information before Friday, May 3, they will be forced “to take the appropriate measures based on the information we can obtain from the RFEF and the media.”

FIFA and UEFA recall that they have followed “with great concern” the latest events in the RFEF, with which they have been “working closely at this critical moment”, and request “detailed information” about the commission launched by the CSD. .

Both organizations ask the legal basis on which said commission was appointed, what its composition is, who appointed its members and what its exact mandate and powers are. They are also interested in the relationship it has with the statutory decision-making bodies of the RFEF, which Pedro Rocha will chair, and request a copy of the minutes of the CSD Board of Directors held on April 25 in which its creation was decided.

Last Thursday, FIFA and UEFA already issued a joint statement in which they announced that they would evaluate whether the creation of the Supervision, Normalization and Representation Commission to protect the Spanish Football Federation could affect its independence, without interference from the government. .

In said text, both organizations announced that “they will seek additional information to evaluate to what extent the appointment by the CSD of the so-called ‘Supervision, Standardization and Representation Commission’ may affect the RFEF’s obligation to manage its affairs independently.” and without undue interference from the government”, in line with what was expressed in the letter sent today to the head of the CSD.
