Weight loss drugs and laxatives that had not been supplied by health personnel. This was what the doctors at the Virgen de Valme Hospital, in Seville, found in the blood of a minor who had been admitted four times in the last four months, the last one for 40 days without the patient experiencing any improvement. This “anomaly” was brought to the attention of the National Police, who were detaining the boy’s mother as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of murder. The judge in charge of the case has ordered her to be imprisoned.
Apparently, the woman, who was with the child at all times during their admissions, suffers from “Machausen Syndrome with powers”, which led her to invent false symptoms or cause real symptoms to make it appear that the minor was sick and thus maintain continuous care.
It was the Hospital’s Pediatric service who attended the minor, whose situation was critical since, after almost a month and a half admitted to the center, his health not only did not improve but worsened. For this reason, they decided to carry out a more exhaustive examination until they discovered that he had a medication in his blood that is used for weight control under medical supervision and other strong laxatives that were not being administered at the hospital.
For this reason, they brought the case to the attention of the Police, informing the agents that it was the mother who accompanied the patient during his admission. Thus, the agents started an investigation that ended with the woman in prison after finding among her possessions two boxes of one of the medicines that in large doses had appeared in the child’s blood tests.
The court, after being informed, ordered the implementation of 24-hour police custody of the child until the conclusion of the investigation, as well as the prohibition of the request for voluntary discharge or transfer to the medical center by their parents.
The police arrested the mother accused of trying to murder her son, who would have died if they had not intervened extremely quickly, according to the doctors.
After the arrest, she was made available to the court, which ordered her to be imprisoned, while the minor, under the guardianship of his family, shows a rapid improvement after the suppression of the administration of the drugs he was given.
