The gender gap between entrepreneurs is reducing in the city of Barcelona. The number of this group of residents in the city in 2022 was 40,875 self-employed, mostly men (58%), but women entrepreneurs (42%) have increased two percentage points, according to the municipal report L’Emprenedoria a Barcelona 2022. By nationality, entrepreneurs in Barcelona in 2022 continued to be mostly Spanish: 22,850 people, representing 55.9% of the total. The entrepreneurial activity rate of the foreign population (6%) is double that of people of Spanish nationality (3%).

Regarding age, the number of entrepreneurial people between 18 and 39 years old (21,100 people) has stabilized in the city in relation to 2021 and represents 51.6% of the total, with a slight predominance over those between 40 and 64 years old. Likewise, the study, carried out by the Municipal Data Office of the City Council, indicates that the number of entrepreneurs in the city of Barcelona represents close to two thirds of the total of the Metropolitan Area of ??Barcelona (65%) and more than a quarter of Catalonia. (26%).

Eixample continued to concentrate the largest number of entrepreneurial people in 2022 (16.8%), followed by Sant Martí (13.6%) and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi (10.5%).
