The garden of the Pedralbes monastery in Barcelona is blooming with chamomile flowers, which look like daisies because they belong to the same family.
There was a young Iranian woman on the premises, who was visiting, and who was very kind to collaborate by posing for these photographs that I share in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos. They thus have an oriental and universal touch.
Chamomile has a wide list of benefits for our health. For example, it is effective in treating stomach problems such as indigestion, as well as reducing colic.
In addition, chamomile reduces inflammation, serves to relax muscle spasms and prevent ulcers. It is very popular as an infusion.
This flower also has a beautiful appearance, which also fulfills its decorative function. On a cosmetic level, the principles contained in chamomile are also used for massage oil, making shampoo and soap, as well as creams.
There are a variety of chamomiles, although the most widespread and marketed for medicinal uses are the “sweet” one (Matricaria chamomilla) and the so-called “roman” one (Chamaemelum nobile).
But why is chamomile so beneficial for our health? Well, there are 200 reasons, associated with its compounds with biological activity, that is, phytochemicals (there are more than two hundred in this plant).
