Totally unaware of the crisis that the British monarchy is currently experiencing – with two of its most prominent members with health problems -, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue their trip to Nigeria. The couple is getting to know the traditional culture of the country and participating in different activities. Indeed, Markle spoke at an event about her Nigerian roots and revealed some details about her two children, Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana.
The truth is that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made this trip as a couple, without their two little ones. During their tour of Africa, they have given new details about their tastes and hobbies, something that allows us to learn more about one of the most popular couples in recent times. This Saturday night, Meghan co-hosted an event focused on women’s leadership, and also served as bridesmaid.
Showing off her elegance, she chose a long red dress with a round neckline from the brand Oríré – a young designer from Nigeria – with ribbed details, thin straps and a small ruffle at the hem. Her styling captivated everyone present. The Duchess of Sussex completed the look with nude Aquazzura sandals and delicate jewelry. “I feel flattered, honored and inspired. “It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours non-stop since we arrived and she decided she needed to wear more color so I can fit in with you guys,” she said about her styling.
The event, which featured more than 50 prominent women from across Nigerian society, politics, business, media and culture, was hosted by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization. Prince Henry’s wife took advantage of her presence to talk about how women combine motherhood with their professional careers. “I love being a mother,” she said, and she assured that her children are “little talkers.”
“When I was on the first season of Suits, a long time ago, let’s say a decade, Bonnie Hammer, who runs NBCUniversal, was and still is my great mentor, and she invited me to breakfast and I asked her; ‘How do you find the balance between being a mother and your professional career?’, and she told me: ‘I can’t find it, you will never find the balance,’ and at that moment I smiled,” Meghan said during the event.
“This was before I got married, had children and the plot of my life took a turn,” she continued, revealing that these statements “impacted” her. “They were words that stayed with me for a long time because you say, ‘Well, how can you be so successful, be a mother, be married and find balance?’ From my point of view and what I believe is that this balance is changing and what was there ten years ago has evolved now,” she continued.
“Being a mother for me has been a dream. Truly, I am very lucky to have two beautiful, healthy and very talkative children,” she confessed. On the other hand, Meghan confessed that she felt “very proud” to be Nigerian. “The first thing I did when I discovered my roots was call my mother to see if she was aware of it. It was very exciting to discover it. When I listen to you talk and I learn what it means to be a Nigerian woman, I feel more and more flattered,” she expressed.
It was in 2023 when Meghan Markle discovered through a genetic test that 43% of her comes from Nigeria. Roots that she couldn’t be more proud of. It seems that the couple could not be happier on their trip to the African country, at a time when her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, is away from the media spotlight due to the cancer she suffers from. King Charles III has also been affected, who suffers from the same illness, but little by little he is resuming his professional commitments. We will have to wait to see if Meghan and Enrique travel to the United Kingdom to visit the family.
