The PSOE will activate the proposal that it presented in its day together with Más Madrid to remove the term “handicapped” from the Statute of Autonomy of the Community of Madrid, in line with the recent reform of the Constitution, so that it can be debated in the Plenary of the Assembly.
This was explained by the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Juan Lobato, after the Meeting of Spokespersons this Monday, where he expressed his desire to achieve a consensus. Although the PP insists that it is necessary to wait for there to be another majority in the Congress of Deputies that prevents the text that regulates the functioning of the region from being “tweaked” and becoming a “bargaining currency” of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, with his partners.
For the socialist leader, it is “quite difficult” to oppose this reform proposal and he has rejected that Congress can address modifications other than this in its processing as the ‘popular’ fear.
However, the PP spokesperson in the Chamber of Vallecas, Carlos Díaz-Pache, has stressed that his Group and the regional Executive are “committed” to eliminating this type of nicknames from all regional regulations, including the Statute, but, in In this last case, he has stressed that it will be done “when there is a majority to do it safely.”
From Vox, its spokesperson, Rocío Monasterio, sees the socialist proposal as “reasonable”, but wants a hypothetical reform to be linked to a reduction in the number of regional deputies, while the spokesperson for Más Madrid, Manuela Bergerot, has asked that the “ultra-right” do not make this reform a “hostage” of “their partisan interests.” Precisely regarding the reduction of deputies, Bergerot has lamented that Vox “always has plenty of democracy.”
Bergerot also announced at the press conference that Más Madrid will bring to the Plenary Session a proposal on mobility to urge both the Community of Madrid and the Government of Spain to improve the financing and service of the Metro and Cercanías, respectively.
On the other hand, Juan Lobato has advanced that in Thursday’s plenary session he will ask the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, “what measures she is taking with an eye toward improving the quality of life and the families of the Community,” since “ “All their efforts and interventions” are focused, he lamented, on “issues that have nothing to do with their powers.”
