Three wrestlers from Phillipsburg, two from Hackettstown and one from Warren Hills will wrestle for an NJSIAA Region 3 title on Saturday at West Orange High School.
Stateliners senior Robert Melise (220 pounds) and juniors Cullen Day (106) and Brian Meyer (145) will wrestle in the finals, which are scheduled to start at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The Tigers have juniors Alex Carida (138) and Joe Andes (285) in the finals.
For the Blue Streaks, junior Jarod Ostir (170) is into the championship round.
Those six wrestlers have clinched spots in next week’s NJSIAA Championships in Atlantic City.
Melise pinned Warren Hills’ Brody Oberly in 1:20. Day recorded a fall against Jake Bursese of Hanover Park in 3:31. Meyer won an 11-1 major decision over Aaron Dunn of Nutley.
Carida won an 8-3 decision over Travis Tavoso of Delbarton and Andes earned a 2-1 decision over Zack Sieb of Morris Catholic.
Ostir had an 8-6 decision over Barak Pipkins of Bloomfield.
Day will wrestle Anthony Clark of Delbarton in the 106 finals, Meyer will take on Garrett Beam of Queen of Peace at 145 and Melise wrestles Sam Mellow of Montclair at 220.
Carida takes on Sean Conley of Hanover Park in the 138 championship match and Andes will wrestle Elyezer Oliviery of Union City at 285.
Ostir will face Marco Gaita of West Morris in the 170 finals.
Matt Valli (132), Zach Nauta (138), Nicholas Galka (195), Oberly (220) and Taylin Zafis (285) of Warren Hills all fell in the semifinals, but still can wrestle back for a berth in states with a win in the consolation round on Saturday.
