LOS ANGELES >> The battle of the bad ended in a tie with the films “Batman v Superman” and “Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party” each winning four Razzie Awards, the light-hearted pre-Oscar tradition that “dishonors” the worst films of the past year.
“Batman” took the honors for Worst Screenplay, Jesse Eisenberg for Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Remake Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Screen Combo for actors Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill.
“Hillary’s America,” which Razzie voters called a “faux” documentary, was recognized as Worst Picture; Worst Actor for Dinesh D’Souza; Worst Actress for Rebekah Turner, who played Clinton; and Worst Director, shared by D’Souza and Bruce Schooley.
“Zoolander No. 2” took home one Razzie for Kristen Wiig as Worst Supporting Actress and Mel Gibson, a 2014 honoree for Worst Supporting Actor earned the Redeemer Award for his Oscar-nominated direction of “Hacksaw Ridge.”
The awarding of the 37th annual Razzie Awards was done via early morning news release, YouTube video and other social media rather than a formal ceremony, as had been held in previous years.
Razzie Award organizers noted that all of its categories this year were expanded to six nominees because “the crop of cinematic crap in 2016 was so extensive.”
