ELIZABETH — A Plainfield man faces weapons and drug charges following a raid at his home where he allegedly threw one gun out a window and tried to flush heroin down a toilet when police arrived, authorities said.

Tyleek Boyce, 36, faces multiple counts of weapons offense, destruction of evidence and hindering apprehension, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said in a statement Monday.

Boyce’s arrest Friday resulted from an investigation involving the prosecutor’s office Guns, Gangs, Drugs, and Violent Crimes Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Park said.

When police from the Union County Emergency Response Team (UCERT) SWAT Unit raided Boyce’s apartment on West Third Street, he threw a loaded 9 mm handgun out of his window, the prosecutor said.

She said police searched the apartment and found a loaded .38-caliber revolver, a .45-caliber handgun, and a second 9 mm handgun reported stolen out of Georgia earlier this month.

They also found hollow-point bullets, a ballistic vest, a high-capacity gun magazine, a digital scale, drug paraphernalia and packaging heroin material, a police radio scanner, and more than 20 bricks of heroin, Park said.

She estimated the street value of the drugs at approximately $70,000.

Park credited the Plainfield police, the SWAT Unit, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and DEA for their assistance in the investigation.

Some of the weapons charges were second-degree crimes, which carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison upon conviction.
