From one day to the next was quiet.

Tim Thomas had dominated the large and been among the main reasons the Boston Bruins’ Stanley Cup triumph in 2011.

– On the ice I was able to achieve 97 percent maybe. Outside the ice, I could not make a decision. I have it so much better now, but I must begin each day with clearing up in my head the first couple of hours. So, I make a list and try to make some choices, he said.

Hjerneskaden was not life threatening, but it blocked his life in a way that made many things messed things up for him. Therefore he chose also to turn away from the sport he has loved all his life.

– It did not make sense for me to follow with more. My brain worked just not well enough to be able to follow. So I sat out in the forests in some years. I am so not hockey. There is not so much tv out there, it came surprisingly from the man who so chose to tear his life up by the roots and move himself and his family out to Idaho in the middle of nowhere for peace of.

Out there in the northern part of Idaho right up on the border to Canada was completely quiet.

– I could not communicate with anyone anywhere in several years. I didn’t call to my father. There was a period where I hated the game. Literally. I was not and said it directly, but my reaction pattern was..that it was not worth it, he said.

He is better today, he says. The five years away from the sport, the media and the attention has been beneficial for him.
