this week I underwent an MRI scan in Los Angeles, and I got the message that I have a tumor on one kidney, she writes.

It’s been a really tough week. Back in October, I got sick and had to go to the IS while I was in New York. It ended up being a stomach virus, but they ran some tests that showed an abnormality – it was recommended that I have a follow-up appointment to take a closer look. After an MRI earlier this week in LA, I was told that I had a small mass on one of my kidneys. Receiving this news has been incredibly shocking and difficult to handle. I’ve been so scared, but I have had the full support of my family, doctors, and nurses. I had surgery yesterday to remove the tumor. The surgery was successful and I was able to keep the rest of my kidney. I am in recovery at the hospital and have been in a lot of pain post-surgery, but I am grateful. My doctor said there is a 60/40 chance that the tumor was malignant versus benign (we will know soon), but I am young, healthy, and feel fortunate that this was detected so early. While this is deeply personal news, I don’t want rumors to spread, or for anyone to worry in case people say they saw me at the hospital. (Next time, just say “hi”) • I am going to try and stay positive and focus on my recovery. In appreciate all of the support and good vibes late my way. My fingers are crossed, too.
– It has been very difficult to deal with this situation. It has been a shock, and I’ve been afraid to die, but I’ve been very support of my nearest as well as the staff at the hospital, she writes.
And it has really turned upside down on her life.

The 25-year-old figure skater was operated on and was even allowed to keep the rest of the kidney after the tumor was cut away.
But she did not do well.
– the Pain has subsequently been worse than I feared. This is something completely different, than the pain, I’m used to. It is difficult to go, she writes.
This is her and her brother’s work towards the Winter OLYMPICS in Beijing about two years put on hold.
Several of the U.S.’s skisportsstjerner as Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin has already sent her words of encouragement.
– I am young and fresh, and I am lucky that they found the tumor early. This is very personal for me, but I choose to be open about it, so that there is no spread some rumors, she writes.
Maia Shibutani and her brother Alex has japanese parents but was born and raised in the UNITED states. They won two bronze medals at the OLYMPIC games in south Korea, has three medals from the WORLD championships (silver in ’16, and bronze in ’11 and ’17). They have won two us championships, six wins In the Grand Prix series and been on the podium 14 times at the u.s. championships as ungdomsatleter and seniors.
