The Spanish karate fighter Sandra Sánchez, Olympic, world and European champion and the best kata specialist of all time, said goodbye to the competition in style with a new victory for her enormous track record, gold at the World Games in Birmingham ( USA).
In her last appearance to put the icing on the cake of an impressive career, Sánchez defeated Japan’s Hikaru Ono in the final and won the gold medal.
“Magnificent against the Japanese putting the finishing touch to her professional stage in the best way, winning,” the Royal Spanish Karate Federation wrote on Twitter.
On her way to the final, Sánchez beat Australia’s Alexandrea Anacan, Germany’s Jasmine Juettner, Italy’s Carola Casale and Hong Kong’s Mo Sheung Grace Lau.
After having won all the possible titles during an already legendary career that was consolidated late, Sánchez says goodbye with a smile from the tatami two months after his 41st birthday and without having left the summit.
He is the leader of the world ranking and in 2021 he won the five-time championship: the Spanish, European, Olympic, world and Premier League titles, the karate champions league.
The World Games are the competition that brings together the main non-Olympic sports, a condition that karate lost after a brief passage through the Tokyo 2020 Games.
In the men’s competition, the Spanish Damián Quintero, Olympic runner-up, won the silver medal when he fell in the final against the Japanese Kazumasa Moto.
