The Gremi de Vinyataires Lliures, which brings together producers of artisanal wine created with their own grapes, has launched a manifesto in which it defends being able to use geographical place names, protected in many cases by designations of origin, “because we are a territory, since we “We respect, promote and defend, because we work with sweat, suffering and dedication.”

At the same time, they fight to be heard by an administration that “denies the great diversity of projects in our region, without taking into account the excessive bureaucracy unattainable by artisan wineries, contrary to the principle of sustainability.”

In this sense, they add that “we want to not be discriminated against when making decisions in the sector, because we are also part of it.” Their movement began in 2021. Outrage took over more than a hundred small artisan wineries due to the complaints filed by the Generalitat of Catalonia.

These complaints, related to alleged irregularities in the labeling of wines that were accompanied by fines, triggered a wave of protests by wine producers. Now they seek to have a voice before the administration and claim their rights. They firmly believe in the promotion and strengthening of networking to support the new generation of young winegrowers “because they are the future of the country’s peasantry.”

They also maintain the deep conviction that “we must be more sustainable at the agri-food level, working the land where our vineyards are rooted, to be able to plant a wine future that reflects the values ??of a healthier and more aware society.”

Currently, this association of winegrowers, which defines itself as a defender of tradition, sustainability and freedom in winemaking, has a total of 68 member wineries.
