The Badalona City Council has decided that this year all the city’s neighborhoods will have Christmas lights, which is why it has doubled the municipal budget for this area. This year there will be luminous garlands in 15 more streets than usual, from the Remei neighborhood to the Mataró highway and districts that, like 5, had never been lit up these holidays will have some streets with Christmas lights.
From the municipal government they assure that this year they have bet to bring the Christmas lights to all the neighborhoods of the city. For the first time there will be illuminated streets in the neighborhoods furthest from the Centre, such as La Mora or El Remei, to the south, or El Manresà, to the north of the city. For this reason, they assure that for months they have worked with the entities of each district to agree on the streets that will be illuminated.
As for the expense, which this year amounts to 384,389 euros, it has received some criticism that the municipal government has stopped by ensuring that “they criticize us for discriminating against the neighborhoods and when we wear the lights, they also criticize us.” In addition, the expenditure per inhabitant is comparable to that allocated by other surrounding cities. “They say we shouldn’t look at neighboring cities and when we do, there are also critics,” lament voices close to the government. Thus, for example, Santa Coloma de Gramenet spends 250,000 euros on lighting, Sant Adrià de Besòs 88,000 euros, Premià de Mar 100,000 euros, Cornellà 349,000 euros and Sant Joan Despí 250,000 euros.
The lighting that this Christmas will be in Badalona, ??according to the same sources, will be low-consumption LED bulbs. In addition, they will follow the guidelines applied by the emergency decree to reduce the time that the lights must be on.
