The Belgian Remco Evenepoel and the Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten have been awarded the Velo d’Or trophy as the best runners in the world in the men’s and women’s categories.

Evenepoel, 22, winner of Liège-Bastogne, Tour of Spain and the World Championship, imposed his favorite status for this prize awarded by the publication Vélo Magazine and received 139 points from the jury, ahead of his compatriot Wout Van Aert, with 88 points and the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, with 84.

The winner of the Tour de France in 2022, Jonas Vingegaard occupies fourth place, the first time since 2006, the year that Spanish Óscar Pereiro won the French test, and the second time since the creation of this award in 1992, that the winner of the Tour does not rank in podium spots for the Golden Bike.

In the female section, things were clear. Annemiek van Vleuten, 40, winner of the Tour, Giro, Vuelta and World Champion, has indisputably prevailed over the rest of the riders in the peloton. There could be no other winner than the magnificent Movistar cyclist.
