The last few months have been marked, among other things, by multiple home burglaries. Miguel Bosé, María del Monte, Sergio Ramos and Mónica Pont are some of the Spanish celebrities who have suffered this experience.
Given the growth of this problem worldwide, the Toronto Police (Canada) has launched a very peculiar piece of advice to avoid this type of theft: leave the car on the street. We explain it to you below.
The creator of this council was Sheriff Marco Ricciardi, belonging to the Toronto security force. The officer stated: “To prevent the possibility of suffering an attack at home, leave the car on the street.”
As Ricciardi mentions, the majority of thieves do not usually enter homes after stealing a vehicle: “Many of the arrested thieves have weapons and they are not toys, they are real” he warns at the press conference.
Car theft in the North American country is increasingly common. In 2022, Canada’s private auto insurers paid out $1.2 billion, three times more than what was paid in 2018.
In fact, in the city of Ontario alone, claims for this type of theft have increased by 329% in that same period, becoming a crisis that the Canadian government intends to solve as soon as possible.
