Diego Martínez has one less argument, and a weighty one, for not being satisfied with his squad. Espanyol announced this morning the incorporation of Denis Suárez until the end of the season. The parakeet team will initially pay 200,000 euros, an amount that could triple in the case of achieving permanence. This is a player who must make a leap in quality to the blue and white midfield.

The departure of Denis Suárez has been quite an odyssey due to the confrontation that the player had with the president of Celta Carlos Mouriño. Only the intermediation of Luis Campos softened the leader, who complicated the operation until the last minute. First, increasing the amounts proposed at first and then trying to get the player to forgive the last monthly payment owed by Celta.

Be that as it may, the player has remained firm in his willingness to sign for Espanyol, where he will only be for the next six months. Starting in June, he will play for Villarreal, a team with which he has a verbal agreement for the next three years.

The three parties involved have gotten up early to make the agreement official. Denis has even published a message on his social networks in which he assures that “I’m coming where I wanted and I couldn’t be happier for this opportunity that Espanyol is giving me. My thanks will be seen on the field.”

Denis Suárez, 29, grew up in the ranks of Celta, played for Manchester City, Barcelona, ??Seville, Villarreal, again for Barcelona. He acted on loan at Arsenal and returned to Vigo on June 30, 2019.

The midfielder has not played a minute throughout the campaign, after he decided not to renew his commitment with Celta, which expired at the end of this season.

This is the third signing of the blue and white team in this winter market, in which Espanyol has been reinforced with the central César Montes, from Monterrey, as well as the French winger Pierre Gabriel, from Mainz.

The departures are those of Pol Lozano, bound for Granada, and that of Jerome Lecomte (Montpellier). Denis Suárez will be presented this Wednesday at 13:30 CET at the RCD Stadium.
