El Retiro and eight other parks in Madrid will be closed this afternoon with the activation of the red alert due to strong winds, the city council has reported in a statement.
The red alert is scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. due to gusts of wind that can reach up to 66 kilometers per hour, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
The City Council will carry out a review of the trees after the end of the red alert and will communicate through official channels the reopening of the facilities, including the 22 information panels located at the accesses of El Retiro. The affected parks are Retiro, El Capricho, the Sabatini gardens, the Rosaleda del Parque del Oeste, Juan Carlos I, Juan Pablo II, Quinta de Fuente del Berro, Quinta de los Molinos and Quinta Torre Arias.
Until 3:00 p.m. the orange alert will remain active in all these parks.
