A motorcyclist died early this Saturday on the A-2, near Jorba (Barcelona), after losing his balance, falling on the road and being hit by a car.
The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) has reported that the accident occurred at 7:45 a.m. at kilometer point 546.5 of the motorway, in the direction of Lleida.
The motorcycle driven by the victim, V.L.V., a 61-year-old resident of La Garriga (Barcelona), became unbalanced for unknown reasons and the motorcyclist was hit by the car that was traveling behind.
The Generalitat Firefighters, who have sent two crews to the scene, have had to stabilize the car in order to be able to lift it safely and extract the motorcyclist, who had been trapped underneath.
Three patrols from the Mossos d’Esquadra and two ambulances from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) have also worked on this incident, which has forced the A-2 towards Lleida to be cut off and traffic diverted.
Although one lane was reopened shortly after, the accident caused delays of about 4.5 kilometers and traffic was completely restored at 11:42 a.m.
According to data provided by the SCT, there are now 42 deaths in traffic accidents on Catalan interurban roads since the beginning of January, twelve of whom were motorcyclists, one of the most vulnerable groups on the road.
