The crime balance published quarterly by the Ministry of the Interior, which includes criminal activity during the first three months of the year, in Catalonia has increased by 5%, just over two tenths above the crimes in the rest of Spain. In the community there have been 126,685 crimes or what is the same, 1,392 crimes every day. A significant decrease in residential robberies of 11.4% stands out.
Catalonia has experienced a significant decrease in crimes against private property. 6,709 cases of robberies in homes, establishments and other facilities have been reported, which represents a reduction of 9.7% compared to the last months of 2023. The greatest decrease has been detected in forceful robberies in homes, which have been 562 less.
Thefts have also decreased by 5.6%, accounting for 39,585 minor thefts, as have reports of vehicle thefts, of which 1,888 have been stolen from January to March of this year, 6.3%.
Especially worrying is the progressive increase in crimes against sexual freedom, which have grown by 4%. The total of this type of crime reported has been 915 in the first three months of the year, of which 583 correspond to crimes against sexual freedom and 332 to sexual assaults with penetration.
Cybercriminal activity, infractions committed through the Internet, also maintains a permanent increase. In Catalonia, these first 91 days of the year, there have been 19,856 computer scams, to which are added 564 cybercrimes of different types.
