These are “decisive hours” to try to control the fire in Alto Mijares, Castellón, which has razed more than 4,600 hectares and kept 1,600 people evacuated. This was explained this afternoon by the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, who has participated in the meeting of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI) at the Advanced Command Post of the fire.
Puig explained that the morning has been “complicated”, especially in Montán and Fuente la Reina, where the most virulent outbreaks are now active and which are the ones that “are causing headaches”. The emergency teams aspire to at least stabilize the fire and they do so with a deadline: Thursday.
The weather forecast predicts westerly winds for March 30 that would make work difficult and could reignite the fire. “Today and tomorrow will be the best days to act because as of Thursday the west returns,” recalled the president.
At this time, all the devices deployed will be maintained to concentrate all the operational power in view of the favorable weather forecasts this afternoon, which predict a regime of breezes and forecast relative humidity of 90%.
All in all, the fire has already devastated 4,600 hectares of great ecological value with a perimeter of 55 kilometers. However, the priority continues to be the protection of people, their assets and then their heritage, because as the head of the Consell explained, “the natural heritage hurts our souls, but we cannot have any misfortune”.
That is why the 1,600 evicted must remain calm because until this afternoon’s meeting of the CECOPI authorities, the possibility of returning to their homes will not be discussed again, but now they are not considering rehousing the neighbors. .
At the moment, 500 land media and 22 aerial media are working with special incidence in the two sources where there is still a risk of reproductions.
The fear is still latent because during the morning there has been a thermal inversion in Montán, a situation that has complicated the tasks of the air resources until noon, when the containment discharges with retardant have begun. In the Fuente la Reina area, the ground and air forces have carried out their work with favorable results on the sealing of the land.
