The good atmosphere has been breathed this morning between candidates for the mayor of Barcelona for the traditional “consensus photo” of La Vanguardia. On this occasion, Xavi Cervera, current head of the newspaper’s photographers, has been in charge of photographing the candidates for Barcelona mayor, Ada Colau (BComú), Ernest Maragall (ERC), Xavier Trias (TriasxBCN), Jaume Collboni (PSC), Daniel Sirera (PP), Anna Grau (Cs) and Eva Parera (Valents), on board a ship from the Consulate of the Sea, in the waters of the port of the city.
As is the tradition since 1984, La Vanguardia takes a special photograph that brings together the candidates for the polls in the day of reflection and tomorrow, election day, will be the front page of this newspaper. An appointment that has been taking place every time an autonomous or municipal electoral process has been carried out in Catalonia, for almost forty years.
The ‘making of’ of this image, which tries to offer a fresh and original perspective of the politicians just before the electoral outcome, offers a cordial and relaxed meeting, and even a fun challenge, for the political contenders who agree to participate.
39 years ago Pedro Madueño took the first snapshot of the then candidates for the presidency of the Generalitat Jordi Pujol (CiU), Raimon Obiols (PSC), Heribert Barrera (ERC) and Antoni Gutiérrez DÃaz (PSUC). Since then, this act has become a classic of the elections in Catalonia.
