The next president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, will try to form an autonomous executive without the inclusion of Vox. This has been his message throughout the electoral campaign and this is the objective of the president of the Valencian PP who wants to make it a reality after the formidable electoral result obtained last Sunday in the regional elections, when he obtained 40 deputies out of 99 from the Valencian Parliament .
In the coming days, he will meet with all the political parties “in the order that the citizens of the Valencian Community have chosen, I will address the rest of the political formations with parliamentary representation to try to guarantee a stable, effective government, that government that puts the program of change that the citizens have overwhelmingly chosen is underway,”
Sources close to Mazón point out that asking the PSPV to abstain from his investiture is not ruled out. If this is not possible, he will need the votes of the formation of Santiago Abascal to be able to reach the investiture since he did not obtain an absolute majority. To do this, he must establish a negotiation with a party whose leader, Carlos Flores, has demanded throughout the campaign to reach power in the Generalitat Valenciana and even occupy some of the key positions such as the vice-presidency of the executive or some areas management of the Valencian administration. A possibility to which the leader of the PP has not responded at any time.
The popular Valencian leader has the advantage that Vox will not be able to achieve its objective of removing the Valencian left from power if it does not support the Valencian PP. For this reason, the negotiation between both political forces is announced to be complex and not exempt from tensions. In addition, Carlos Mazón does not share some of Vox’s postulates on gender, environmental issues and cultural issues, in which the force of Carlos Flores wants to impose his criteria but which the PP will try to avoid.
At the municipal level, the next mayoress of Valencia, MarÃa José Català , has also made it clear that she does not want to integrate Vox into her local executive. The winner of the 28-M elections has the advantage that the most voted list governs in the municipalities, which will make it easier for her to achieve her goal in the event that Vox refuses to vote in favor of her investiture . Catalá, in addition, has obtained a result that gives it some comfort, with 13 councilors out of the 33 that make up the municipal corporation. Vox has achieved 4. Catalá, yes, has not ruled out reaching specific agreements with Abascal’s force “to approve budgets or adopt any type of decision,” according to what he told the media on election night.
The PP of the city of Alicante has a better situation with respect to Vox, where its leader and current mayor, Lúis Barcala, obtained 14 councilors out of the 29 that make up the consistory. A comfortable majority for which you will not need to make legislature pacts with Vox, which obtained 4 councilors. In other cities like Elx, the PP will be obliged to reach agreements with Vox. In this case, the PSPV was the list with the most votes, with 12 councillors, while the PP obtained 11 and 3 Vox.
As a global strategy, the Valencian PP wants to avoid, as far as possible, depending on Vox both to shape policies at the regional and local levels, although the far-right party’s ambition to achieve power in the institutions is not going to put it easy to the popular Valencians.
