Bad news for the Spanish royal family. Miguel Urdangarin, one of the children of Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdagarin, has suffered an accident while skiing in Switzerland. As stated by ¡Hola! magazine, the 21-year-old suffered a blow to his knee due to a fall while sliding down one of the difficult-to-access slopes. The injury is not serious, but he will require surgery, as revealed by the aforementioned media.

It is no secret that the family is fond of this sport. Miguel is passionate about skiing, and has even earned the title of instructor. Apparently, the young man was enjoying a tour of the black slopes (spaces reserved for very expert skiers) when he suffered a fall that caused damage to his knee. His extensive experience was of no use, as he finally ended up injured.

For her part, Infanta Cristina was on a cooperation trip in Latin America at the time of the accident. The sister of King Felipe VI had planned to travel to Abu Dhabi at Easter to visit King Juan Carlos I, but she has finally returned to Geneva to be with her son during the operation and her recovery.

It was last year when the grandson of King Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía finished his studies in Marine Biology at a university in the United Kingdom. Last summer, he returned to Switzerland with his mother, where he earned the title of ski teacher. A title that he will be able to put little use to in the remainder of the season, as he will have to recover from the injury he suffered this weekend.

Both Miguel and his three brothers are passionate about sports, but that is something that runs in the family. It should be remembered that Iñaki Urdangarin had a great sporting career as a handball player, and won six European Cups and ten Asobal Leagues during his time at Barcelona. On the other hand, he won two bronze medals in the Olympic Games with the Spanish team. His son Pablo follows in his footsteps, and is professionally dedicated to sports at Fraikin BM Granollers.

As we said before, skiing is also a sport frequented by the family. Apart from Miguel, King Felipe VI also practices it. In fact, the monarch resumed his annual tradition of skiing in Aramón-Formigal, in the Tena valley of the Aragonese Pyrenees, last weekend. The king was seen with some friends and was photographed by the media present there.
