A person died last night on the AP-7, near La Jonquera (Girona), in a head-on collision with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, whose driver has been arrested by the Mossos d’Esquadra accused of homicide and another against traffic safety.
For reasons that are being investigated, a car traveling in the opposite direction on the A9 from Le Boulou (France) ended up colliding head-on with another on the AP-7, near the municipality of La Jonquera.
As a result of the impact, the driver of the latter vehicle, a 61-year-old man of Polish nationality, died, while the other suffered minor injuries, as reported this Sunday by the Catalan Traffic Service.
The incident occurred, specifically, on the AP-7 at kilometer 1, and the Mossos received the notice at 11:03 p.m. last night.
Five Mossos patrols, five Generalitat Fire Departments, who worked to extract the deceased driver, and three units of the Emergency Medical System (SEM) traveled to the scene of the accident.
As for the road impact, the motorway had to be closed in the direction of France until almost two in the morning, and it has been completely normalized after three.
With this victim, the number of people who have died on Catalan roads in 2023 rises to 66.
