Silvio Berlusconi has died at the age of 86 at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, a medical center where he was admitted in critical condition due to different complications derived from leukemia that he had suffered for some time.

According to the Italian communication agency ANSA, the up to three times Prime Minister of Italy suffered from chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, a disease that was diagnosed more than a year ago. Due to this harsh condition, Berlusconi has visited the hospital several times in recent months, as his body was suffering from various ailments.

Although he was aware that suffering from this type of disease at his age could end his life, the news of the death of the television magnate and founder of Mediaset has left Italian society and millions of people around the world speechless.

His girlfriend and faithful companion, Marta Fascina, is devastated by the event and some friends, such as Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid coach, have expressed their condolences today: “Today’s sadness does not erase the happy moments we lived together.”

But Silvio Berlusconi was not afraid of death and often even thought about it. Many years before falling ill, in 1990, the businessman had a Carrara marble mausoleum built in his mansion in Arcore, on the outskirts of Milan.

To accomplish this feat, Berlusconi hired one of the best sculptors of the time, the artist Pietro Cascella, whom he asked to create a monumental tomb inspired by the tomb of Tutankhamun or Emperor Hadrian, since he did not want a “mortuary” environment. ”. The funeral space had to have a large dimension to house his body once he died and that of about thirty people close to him: family, friends… to whom he would give the honor of resting eternally with him.

The businessman’s health became a constant concern since he was infected with coronavirus in 2020 and had to be admitted to the hospital with bilateral pneumonia.

Since then, and also due to his old age, Berlusconi has suffered various complications that have made him go to and from the medical center more than he would like. Last April, the former politician was admitted for pneumonia aggravated by his illness and, despite the fact that he was discharged after 45 days under observation, he died three weeks later.
