Candidates for teacher oppositions that begin on June 30 have shown their perplexity on social networks over the assignment of courts that force them to travel up to 200 kilometers from their city of residence, when there are closer courts.

The Department of Education responds that this situation occurs to a minority of the 36,000 candidates who apply for the 14,238 vacancies and that it is due to the need to set up courts by specialty.

For this call there are 300 courts distributed throughout Catalonia. The administration, on the other hand, has no obligation to ensure the proximity of the opponents to the courts.

However, this setback is added to the error recently made by the department itself in the PDF of the list of admitted candidates and courts that did not match the one that each applicant had received in their e-tauler. The one from e-tauler was valid, so Education rectified the information by posting a new PDF with the correct information.

It is the circumstance that in the notice published warning that it was going to be resolved with a new PDF there are two errors and two spelling mistakes (the absence of two weak pronouns), which has been pointed out with indignation due to the lack of demand in the review of texts by Catalan teachers. “In the list of admitted people, there has been an incident when generating the PDF and the court assignment is not displayed correctly. This list will be published shortly to replace the one that had been published”, says the note verbatim.

Regarding the assignment of courts, the secondary school teachers union Aspepc-sps has denounced that there are candidates from Girona who must be examined in Lleida, or from Terres de Ebre in Vic. Complaints from teachers from Barcelona have also been published on social networks who must travel to Platja d’Aro, Blanes or Lleida.

Educació sources have indicated that “the allocation of candidates has been based on the size of the courts and specialties, with a balanced distribution of the number of candidates in each specialty and respecting proximity whenever possible,” they point out.

The oppositions will begin on June 30 and are expected to last for several days depending on the number of opponents. In this sense, they will coincide with the tests of the stabilization process for positions of civil servants (non-teachers) that were canceled in April and that will be repeated on July 1 and 8.

The July oppositions are extraordinary and are part of the process of stabilization of places that has the objective of reducing the interim to 8% before the year 2024. By merit contest, 12,859 people entered, after 36,000 presented themselves. A group of interim personnel with more than 3 years of seniority and who occupied positions with structural tasks complain about having been left out and being forced to present themselves to the oppositions.

The Plataforma de Interim Teachers of Catalonia (PINDOC) requests that the stabilization process be stopped for not having offered all the structural vacancies in the merit contest and that the position be stabilized for all interim teachers in fraud of law with three or more years worked in the Public Administration.

At the end of the year, the administration plans to call ordinary oppositions for 2,174 places.

On the other hand, the new Minister of Education, Anna Simó, sent a message to all teachers on Monday asking them for complicity to “improve education” and in which she promises to “get out of the restrictive dynamics of cuts taxes on social policies a decade ago”.
