The Junts per Catalunya candidacy for the Parliamentary elections on May 12 is taking shape. As the party revealed in a statement this Wednesday, the name will be “Junts Puigdemont per Catalunya”.
This is a formula similar to the one used by the post-convergent space in the municipal elections in May last year in Barcelona with the former convergent mayor Xavier Trias. The name, in its case, was “Trias per Barcelona” and hid the acronym JxCat. The intention now is not to hide the brand but to include the name of the candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont.
Under this umbrella, they will participate in the elections on 12-M Together with other small parties such as Democrats of Catalonia – the sovereignist heirs of the Democratic Union of Catalonia -, Movement of the Left of Catalonia, Reagrupament, Catalan State – the party of former republican leader Josep Andreu , ex-mayor of Montblanc and friend of the ex-president–, Green Alternative, Action for the Republic – an organization that has a few cadres within JxCat– and Joventut Republicana de Lleida.
Some of these formations already went to the 2021 regional elections or the municipal elections last year with the help of JxCat. This is the case of Demòcrates, which even had two deputies in the Parliament group, or MESCat.
