Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been rushed to hospital, the president’s own press office has reported in a statement.

Netanyahu is admitted to the Sheba medical center near Tel Aviv for unspecified reasons, although his health is good, according to his office.

Netanyahu is said to be in “good condition” and is now undergoing a medical evaluation at the hospital, without specifying further details.

The Sheba Medical Center is the largest hospital in Israel and is located in the city of Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv. His personal doctor, Tzvi Berkovitz, told Channel 12 that the prime minister’s condition was “good and stable.”

The prime minister reportedly lost consciousness at home, hitting his head when he fell, but he reached the hospital fully conscious and walking without help, according to Israeli media citing medical sources.

In October, Netanyahu was hospitalized at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center after feeling unwell while praying in a synagogue. He was released the next morning after undergoing tests and staying overnight for observation.

Leader of the right-wing Likud party, Netanyahu is the longest serving prime minister of Israel: 15 years. Along with his ultra-Orthodox and ultra-nationalist allies, he won last November’s elections after having been in power for various periods: 1996-1999 and 2009-2021.

Since his second term began in 2009, Netanyahu has not formally appointed an interim prime minister. When he has been traveling abroad or undergoing brief medical procedures, he would appoint a nearby minister to take over temporarily.
