The acting President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has traveled to Morocco today to spend a few days on vacation with his family, government sources have informed EFE.
Sánchez, who has traveled on a commercial airliner to the Marrakech airport, has landed a few hours ago in this city to rest with his family before starting the new political course.
It is a “strictly private” trip, according to the Moncloa sources, who emphasize that it has been “entirely paid for with own resources” by the Prime Minister and in which no institutional agenda is contemplated.
Although it was initially speculated that Sánchez would go to Lanzarote, the same sources explain that the acting head of the Executive has remained in Madrid until today.
The President of the Government began his vacation this Tuesday after he recorded a video this Monday at the PSOE headquarters in Ferraz in which he hoped to find enough support to achieve an investiture that “allows us to continue advancing” for another four years.
Sánchez has summoned the constitution of the Cortes, on August 17, to begin negotiating the possible support that he requires to reissue a coalition government.
The vacations of Sánchez and his family in Morocco are not the first for a president of the Spanish government in the neighboring country. In the north of Morocco, former presidents José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Felipe González, both Socialists, used to spend vacation periods, but since the former left the presidency in 2012, no other Spanish head of state has done so.
In 2011, Zapatero spent New Year’s Eve with his family in the northern city of Tangier along with his then Foreign Minister, Trinidad Jiménez.
