The National Police have arrested two people in Dos Hermanas (Seville) on suspicion of defrauding nearly 5,500 euros through what is known as the “son in distress” scam. The victims had denounced the events in Valencia and Miranda de Ebro (Burgos).
The investigation, as reported by the National Police, began when the agents learned that two people had been deceived through an instant messaging application by someone who had contacted them posing as their children, who pretended to have a problem with their phones. usual mobile phones and asked their parents for an immediate bank transfer to an account controlled by the authors, from where they later quickly made the money disappear by transferring it to other accounts or withdrawing it in cash at ATMs.
It was using this modus operandi that they deceived their victims, residents of Valencia and Miranda de Ebro (Burgos), who hurriedly made transfers of 3,000 and 2,500 euros, believing that with this they were helping their respective children who were in financial difficulties.
The second of those involved was on the run from Justice, with up to ten judicial claims in force by different Judicial Authorities throughout the national territory, and finally days later, he was located and was also arrested in the Seville town, for which reason They were made available to the Judicial Authority for fraud.
